presents
The Story of the Nutcracker

Adapted by Rory Pierce from the original book by E.T.A. Hoffman
(with inspirations from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker Ballet)

Nearly everyone knows the tale of the Nutcracker: A gift to Marie from her Godfather Drosslemeier on Christmas Eve. Sadly, the beautiful Nutcracker gets broken and later that night Marie goes to check up on it. To her surprise, it has come alive, and a story-within-the-story begins! The audience is invited to become a part of the Nutcracker story and everyone gets to live happily ever after.

"The Story of the Nutcracker" begins on November 26 and runs through December 23.

Performances are every Saturday at 1 p.m. Call or go online for weekday performance availability December 19 - 23. Tickets are only $10 and available by calling 303-935-3044 or online at www.minersalley.com

Featuring: Rory Pierce, Kate Poling, Erin Bell, Emily Gomes and Erik Thurston.

Rory Pierce - Writer and Director

Children’s Theatre has been a passion of Rory’s for a long time, ever since doing ‘Winnie the Pooh’ at the Arvada Center nearly 30 years ago. Over 20 years ago he helped begin the Children’s Theatre at the Heritage Square Music Hall, writing eighteen plays and directing many more. Now, he has a chance to begin again, helping found the Miners Alley Children’s Theatre in downtown Golden. He is honored to be able to bring plays for children back to Golden.

This sweeping musical portrait of early 20th century America tells the story of three families in the pursuit of the American Dream. At the dawn of a new century, everything is changing… and anything is possible. Set in the volatile melting pot of turn-of-the-century New York, three distinctly American tales are woven together -- that of a stifled upper-class wife, a determined Jewish immigrant and a daring young Harlem musician. Together they confront history's timeless contradictions of wealth and poverty, freedom and prejudice, hope and despair, and what it means to live in America. Critics herald Ragtime as "A triumph for the stage," and "the best musical in twenty years."

The Dinner Detective is the largest, award-winning, interactive comedic murder mystery dinner show in the United States. We are now running public and private shows in cities across the country every week. Our immensely popular shows are set in the present day. Unlike other murder mystery dinner shows, here you will find no cheesy costumes, no recited campy dialogue and no hokey song and dance. Our performers are dressed just like everyone else, leaving all of the guests to suspect who is a part of the show and who is not. In many instances, guests are seated with the performers and don't even realize it until they die...the performers, that is! Our Detectives proceed to interrogate everyone and find clues as more people die. At the end of the night, prizes are awarded to the Top Sleuth who solves the crime.

The winner of six Tony Awards including Best Musical, Thoroughly Modern Millie was the 2002 season’s most awarded new show on Broadway! Based on the 1967 Academy Award-winning film, Thoroughly Modern Millie takes you back to 1922, the height of the Jazz Age in New York City, when “moderns” including a flapper named Millie Dillmount were bobbing their hair, raising their hemlines, entering the workforce, and rewriting the rules of love. This high-spirited musical romp is a delightful valentine to the long-standing spirit of The Big Apple and the people who seek to discover themselves there.

Thoroughly Modern Millie tells the story of young Millie from Kansas who comes to The Big Apple in search of a new life for herself. Her grand plan is to find a job as a secretary for a wealthy man and then marry him. However, her plan goes completely awry. The owner of her dingy hotel kidnaps young girls to sell to the Far East; her wealthy boss is slow in proposing marriage; and the man she actually falls in love with doesn’t have a dime to his name – or so he tells her.

In small town Cypress, Texas, sweet but troubled teen Jason is coping with his father’s recent death and is forced to join his mother’s Church-led puppet group. When this God-fearing boy discovers that his sock puppet has a life of its own, all hell breaks loose. Literally.

In this ruthlessly dark comedy, a satanic sock puppet named Tyrone shows the children, minister, and school bully who’s really in charge. Spectacularly foul-mouthed and wickedly scandalous, Tyrone shocks the congregation with his outrageous insinuations, exposing their deepest secrets—and teaching us all about what it means to be human. Hand to God is a blasphemous exploration of faith, grief, and humanity.

A live band on hi-tech hyperdrive, EOTO has forged new territory in the electronic dance music movement. Locked and loaded with computers, loopers, midi controllers, routers, software, mixers, and the latest in music technology, multi-instrumentalist Michael Travis and percussionist/vocalist, Jason Hann have sent a speeding bullet through the electronic dance community due to their innovative 100% improvised approach and as a result, their exclusive sound. Not just a haphazard foray into experimental music, the duo starts their musical adventure from scratch (there are no pre-recorded loops, no backing tracks, and no pre-constructed songs in their live production) building each set, note-by-note, beat by beat, live before the audience as each show explodes into a full-scale dance party.
